National Police Commission: Polri Capable of Tackling Street Robbery Using Technology
The National Police Commission (Kompolnas) has stated that the Indonesian National Police (Polri) is capable of overcoming street robbery cases by utilising technological assistance.
“I believe that with current societal progress, alongside advancing technology, the police are capable of eradicating street crime. Furthermore, the police are personally supported by technology and equipped with sophisticated tools,” said Kompolnas Commissioner Mohammad Choirul Anam when met at the Kompolnas Building, South Jakarta, on Tuesday.
He noted that CCTV cameras have already been installed at various locations. Additionally, members of the public can report robbery incidents directly to the police via the 110 emergency hotline. “For members of the public who obtain information regarding robberies, please communicate directly with the police down to the lowest level,” he added.
According to Anam, these two measures ensure that robbery cases remain manageable for Polri, especially as the police have significant experience in solving major robbery cases. “Therefore, it is important that we encourage and support our police to ensure our security and comfort are maintained,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Head of Criminal Investigation at Cengkeng Police Sub-station, Assistant Commissioner Parman Gultom, stated that the perpetrators operate in groups, stalking victims on the road before initiating accusations or intimidation. The perpetrators first intercept the target’s vehicle and launch accusations, pretending that the victim has committed violence against their families.
Once the victim stops, the perpetrators begin mass intimidation. Victims are reportedly surrounded and subjected to psychological pressure before being assaulted and robbed of their valuables. The arrest of the three perpetrators took place on 23 and 24 May 2026, at their residences in the Pakuwon area, Bekasi. Police suspect this group has operated more than once, and investigators are currently conducting further enquiries to uncover other crime locations and the involvement of the perpetrators in similar cases.
