National Police Commission Monitors Acid Attack Case Against KontraS Activist
The National Police Commission (Kompolnas) is monitoring the handling of the acid attack case against KontraS activist Andrie Yunus, perpetrated by the Indonesian National Police, specifically the Metro Jaya Regional Police. “We have been monitoring it from the start since the case was released by YLBHI. Kompolnas immediately monitored the investigation at Metro Jaya Regional Police,” said Kompolnas Commissioner Yusuf Warsyim when confirmed in Jakarta on Wednesday (18/3). According to Yusuf, Polri is very serious in handling the case, which has drawn the attention of the entire Indonesian public regarding freedom of democracy. “In our monitoring, Polri is very serious. Therefore, to ensure that this seriousness is known to the public, Polri needs to provide information updates to the public on the progress of the investigation,” Yusuf explained. In addition, Kompolnas is still coordinating with Metro Jaya Regional Police regarding the arrest of two suspected perpetrators of the acid attack on activist Andrie Yunus and whether there is any connection to the four TNI members secured by the TNI Central Inspectorate in relation to a similar case. “Meanwhile, Kompolnas is still coordinating with Metro Jaya Regional Police to confirm the arrest of four TNI personnel by the TNI Central Inspectorate, whether it is related to the investigation by Metro Jaya Regional Police,” he revealed. If there is a connection, said Yusuf, Metro Jaya Regional Police can provide information to the public as transparency of information on the case. “Of course, if there is a connection, either direct or indirect, we hope that Metro Jaya Regional Police can provide information to the public as an update on the investigation progress that has been informed that the suspected perpetrators are more than one person,” he stated. Previously, Metro Jaya Regional Police revealed two initials of suspected perpetrators in the acid attack case against the Deputy Coordinator of the Commission for the Disappeared and Victims of Violence (KontraS), Andrie Yunus. “We can inform that the two people we showed earlier, from one Polri data, one with initials BHC, and one with initials MAK,” said the Director of Criminal Investigation of Metro Jaya Regional Police, Commissioner Police Iman Imanuddin, during a press conference in Jakarta on Wednesday. However, Iman explained that based on the investigation results, it does not rule out the possibility that the perpetrators number more than four people, as per initial information provided and based on statements from several witnesses who have been questioned, namely 15 witnesses.
