JAKARTA – The National Police Commission (Kompolnas) has raised concerns about drug evidence being misused by police officers for resale.

“Imagine, evidence that is misused by officers and law enforcement personnel, it could be embezzled, set aside, concealed at fantastic prices,” said Kompolnas Secretary Arief Wicaksono on Thursday (26 February 2026).

Kompolnas has uncovered troubling facts, including drugs that were embezzled by personnel and sold at fantastical prices reaching billions of rupiah.

According to Arief, the misuse occurs due to weak supervision of evidence in drug cases.

“Why? Because in more remote areas, they don’t have incinerators and forensic laboratories. Incinerators are devices for destroying drug evidence,” he said.

He stated that if drug evidence is transported long distances to be destroyed in another city, there is potential for interference from drug dealers. Additionally, there is potential for it to be set aside by personnel for resale.

“We are encouraging regional police departments without evidence destruction equipment to collaborate with the regional narcotics agency. So evidence can be destroyed there, including forensic laboratories,” he said.

Through this collaboration, he continued, it is hoped that the potential for misuse and abuse of drugs by police personnel can be minimised.

The forum organised by Kompolnas was themed “Strategy for Prevention and Law Enforcement Against Drug Abuse by Police Personnel”.

The forum was attended by several speakers and active participants, including anti-money laundering expert Yenti Garnasih, Principal Police Affairs Accreditor Senior Commissioner Armaini from the Police Professional Standards Division (Propam), Deputy for Legal Affairs and Cooperation at the National Narcotics Agency Agus Irianto, and Deputy of the Narcotics Crime Directorate at the Criminal Investigation Bureau Senior Commissioner Sunaryo.
