National Police Chief's Message to Bus Drivers: Drive Carefully and Safeguard Homebound Travellers

National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo inspected Purabaya Bungurasih Terminal in Sidoarjo, East Java on Sunday, 15 March to oversee security and public services during the 2026 Lebaran homebound travel period.

During the inspection, the Kapolri noted an increasing number of passengers preparing for the exodus and predicted further growth with peak travel expected on 17-20 March.

“We have interacted well with passengers who will use buses for their journey, both for travel within the region and also for the nationwide exodus, as this terminal serves intercity, inter-provincial and inter-island routes, including to Bali,” Sigit stated.

The Kapolri explained that safety measures at Purabaya Terminal include vehicle safety checks and driver drug testing. He emphasised these measures are crucial for passenger safety.

“We always urge that this exodus period be conducted in a way that reduces accident rates. Our hope, of course, is that all travellers can reach their homes, reunite with their families and share happiness—that is our expectation,” he said.

He requested all officers on duty to provide the best service and to respond swiftly to any passenger safety concerns or complaints that may arise.

“This is done to ensure we provide service in line with public expectations,” he said.

The Kapolri stressed that cross-sectoral coordination is essential for maximum service during the exodus period. He conveyed a message to all bus drivers to drive carefully and safeguard the safety of passengers returning to their hometowns.

“Drive carefully on the road, and rest if you become tired. For long journeys, please ensure backup drivers are available to prevent unwanted incidents on the road,” he concluded.
