National Police Chief Vows Stern Action Against Members Who Undermine Public Justice
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo has promised to take stern action against any member of the National Police who commits violations and undermines public justice.
This was conveyed by Sigit in his speech during an iftar event with members of the press.
“We promise that regarding matters that undermine public justice, especially those involving violations, we will not hesitate to take firm action to protect our beloved institution,” said the National Police Chief at the National Police Headquarters, Wednesday (February 25, 2026).
“I would like to apologize if, in our daily activities, there may be actions by our members, whether intentional or unintentional, that have undermined public justice,” he explained.
According to Sigit, this commitment is a form of the National Police’s responsibility to the public and the press.
On that occasion, Sigit emphasized that the voice of the press represents the voice of the public.
Therefore, every criticism, complaint, or aspiration conveyed through the media must be responded to quickly by the police force.
“No matter how small the voice from our friends in the press, it is a cry from the public, a complaint from the public, an aspiration from the public, which we must respond to quickly,” he said.
Sigit highlighted the development of information technology, including artificial intelligence (AI) and deepfakes, which are considered to have the potential to trigger misinformation and disinformation.
Based on global risk reports, this issue is one of the threats that has a broad impact, both globally and in the daily lives of the public.
Therefore, he hopes that the media will continue to provide factual and trustworthy information so that the public is not trapped in misleading information flows, especially on social media.
He also reaffirmed his institution’s commitment to remain open to criticism, input, and evaluation from the public and the press.
“We are always ready to receive input, receive criticism and evaluation. However, we also ask that you continue to help us carry out the mandate of the institution, to carry out our main tasks in maintaining public security and order, enforcing the law, and maintaining security for our country,” he concluded.
