National Police Chief Visits Bung Karno's Tomb in Blitar, Prays and Scatters Flowers

National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo continued a series of pilgrimages to the graves of national figures in observance of the 80th Bhayangkara Day. After visiting the tomb of Gus Dur in Jombang, the Police Chief proceeded to the tomb of the Proclamator and first President of the Republic of Indonesia, Ir. Soekarno, also known as Bung Karno. The solemn activity took place at the Bung Karno Tomb Complex on Jalan Ir. Soekarno No. 152, Blitar City, East Java, on Saturday (20/6/2026). The Police Chief and his entourage arrived at the location around 12.30 p.m. Western Indonesian Time. Upon entering the tomb gate, which was covered with a red carpet, General Sigit immediately paid his respects in a solemn manner. Before entering the core resting area known as the Astono Mulyo building, the Police Chief removed his shoes at a specially provided seating area. Once inside the tomb’s cupola, the Police Chief was warmly welcomed by the caretaker of Bung Karno’s tomb, Kahfi Annezar, who acted as the pilgrimage guide. The Police Chief and his entourage were invited to sit in the tomb area to perform prayers together, led by Kahfi Annezar. A solemn atmosphere enveloped the prayer session in front of the Proclamator’s grave, which is situated in the centre, flanked by the tombs of his parents, R. Soekemi Sosrodihardjo and Ny. Ida Aju Njoman Rai. After the prayers, General Sigit led the flower-scattering procession over Bung Karno’s tomb. This procession was also followed by the accompanying senior officials, namely the Head of the National Police Intelligence and Security Agency and the Commander of the Police Mobile Brigade Corps. ‘This series of pilgrimage activities is part of the tradition for entering the 80th Bhayangkara Day. Earlier this morning, we made a pilgrimage to the tomb of the late President Gus Dur, and alhamdulillah, we are now making a pilgrimage to the tomb of the late President Soekarno. After this, we will continue to the tomb of the late President Soeharto, and finally, we will conclude at the Kalibata Heroes’ Cemetery,’ said General Sigit. ‘Of course, this series of activities we are carrying out is part of our tradition to absorb and explore the values of the nation’s leaders. This is very important, especially for the National Police institution, which has a mandate to continue preserving what has been bequeathed, the values that have been given by our former Presidents and former national leaders to the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia and also to the National Police institution,’ he continued. The series of activities concluded around 1.10 p.m. before the Police Chief and his entourage departed from the Bung Karno Tomb gate to continue their journey to the tomb of the 2nd President of the Republic of Indonesia, H.M. Soeharto.
