National Police Chief Unveils Food Security Innovations: From Corn Briquettes to Precision Fertiliser

This was conveyed by General Sigit in his speech at the Simultaneous Corn Harvest and Groundbreaking Ceremony for 10 National Police Food Security Warehouses, in Tuban, East Java, Saturday (16/5/2026). The event was attended directly by President Prabowo Subianto.

General Sigit said that one of the innovations being developed is a collaboration with local SMEs. He said the collaboration is in an effort to utilise agricultural waste into alternative energy.

“The National Police is also working with local SMEs to encourage the use of agricultural by-products through the development of corn cob briquettes under the name Miracle Carbon as an alternative energy source for household needs supporting SMEs, chicken coop heaters, and a substitute for firewood,” he said.

In addition, the National Police also presents an innovation of precision fertiliser based on coal. General Sigit said this innovation can increase soil pH.

“The National Police presents an innovation of precision fertiliser based on coal which is useful for increasing pH by one to two levels, while also restoring nutrients so that it can enrich the soil and make plants healthier,” he explained.

“This innovation, with permission, has been used on corn agricultural land in West Java and Papua,” he continued.

The National Police is also developing various agricultural support tools such as vertical dryers, corn shelling machines, soil testers, solar-powered pumps, atmospheric water generators, and mobile rotary dryers to speed up the drying and processing of harvests.

Furthermore, General Sigit explained that the National Police is working with Himbara banks to channel Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) Credit to farmers. The funds are used to purchase seeds, fertiliser, pesticides, rent equipment, and other agricultural operational needs.

“Of course, we hope that Mr. President will support the strengthening of access to MSME Credit, both in terms of ease and increasing the amount of credit that will later be used to open new land, support the process from upstream to downstream so that farmers can increase production capacity, business independence, and rural economic growth,” he explained.

Currently, he said, as many as 714 corn farmer groups fostered by the National Police in 42 Police Precincts in 8 Regional Police have utilised the financing facility. The total credit disbursed reached IDR 30.3 billion.

“In addition, farmers hope that they can receive more assistance related to seeds, fertiliser, and agricultural tools so that it can support increased production,” he said.

General Sigit said that the National Police has currently built 18 storage warehouses in 12 provinces to accommodate the harvest. In addition, the groundbreaking for the construction of 10 food security warehouses will also be carried out.

“Today, the simultaneous groundbreaking for the construction of 10 food security warehouses will be carried out, so that the total number of National Police food security warehouses will reach 28 units, each with a capacity of 1,000 tons and 1 unit with a capacity of 10,000 tons which will be completed in June 2026,” he said.
