National Police Chief: The Police Force is Ready to be Evaluated to Become a Civilian Police
The National Police Chief, General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, affirmed that he is always open to all forms of criticism and evaluation from the public.
Sigit stated that the police always accept and are ready to implement the input received. According to him, the police force wants to continue upholding the mandate and trust of reform.
“The police are also ready to be evaluated and criticised so that the police force can fulfil its mandate and trust of reform by becoming a civilian police force that is close to and loved by the community,” said Sigit in a press conference in Jakarta, Thursday (26/2).
Sigit asked all elements of society to oversee and protect the police through criticism and input.
On the other hand, he also assured that his side would not limit the space for public expression as a form of maintaining the democratic climate in Indonesia.
“Regarding the rights of all of you to express critical voices, it is the obligation of the police to provide good service,” he said.
Furthermore, Sigit asked all parties to continue maintaining stability, order and security as one of the pillars of national development.
“So that together we can maintain, direct, and realise what is the great aspiration of our nation to achieve national goals towards a Golden Indonesia 2045,” he said.
Previously, cases of violence involving the police had occurred again. In addition, a case emerged of police allegedly being involved in a drug trafficking network and receiving payments from drug lords.
