The National Police Chief, General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, affirmed that the Police are a partner and friend to the community. General Sigit reiterated the Police’s commitment to providing the best possible service to the community.

This was conveyed by General Sigit at an iftar event with a number of community organizations (ormas), youth organizations (OKP), and students at the Mutiara Auditorium of the STIK/PTIK Polri, South Jakarta, on Thursday (26/2). General Sigit explained that the Police and the community are both products of the reform era.

“Therefore, we can all understand that the Police and civil society are both products of the reform era, and also the result of the nation’s democratic struggle, which has a moral responsibility to guide the nation’s progress,” said General Sigit in his speech on Thursday (26/2/2026).

General Sigit said that after the 1998 reforms, the space for public participation has become more open. Community organizations and students have emerged as pillars to uphold democratic values.

The Police, said General Sigit, have been entrusted with the task of carrying out security functions to ensure the stability of the nation. General Sigit said that the Police will always provide protection and security for the community and maintain public order.

“The relationship between the Police and civil society is equal and must always be built on mutual respect. Therefore, I urge you to make the Police a partner and friend of the community,” he said.

General Sigit invited all parties to work together to safeguard the democratic process. General Sigit urged all levels of the Police to open up space to facilitate public aspirations.

“I have also asked all levels of the Police to truly facilitate the aspirations that are conveyed, so that these aspirations can be delivered. The Police are ready to be a facilitator and mediator so that all processes can run safely, smoothly, and orderly. The Police are currently changing their paradigm, from maintaining order to providing services,” he explained.

Furthermore, General Sigit urged all parties to protect the democratic space, so that it is not infiltrated by certain parties. He emphasized that unity is the key to realizing the Golden Indonesia 2045.

“What will happen is chaos, which can endanger lives, public safety, and other public facilities. And of course, this can also have an impact on disrupting public order,” said General Sigit.

“If we do not take care of it properly, this will also have an impact on economic stability. And if it continues and is not controlled, this will lead to division in the nation, decline in the economy, decline in the social, cultural, and defense sectors, which will of course harm all of society, the nation, and the state,” he added.
