National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo has finally spoken out regarding the detention of Roy Suryo and Dr Tifauzia Tyassuma, known as Dr Tifa, by Polda Metro Jaya in the case of alleged dissemination of false accusations concerning the diploma of the 7th President of the Republic of Indonesia, Joko Widodo, or Jokowi. According to Listyo, the detention step taken by investigators is part of the ongoing legal process. He stressed that the action had gone through the applicable investigation mechanism and had previously been explained by the Polda Metro Jaya leadership. The statement was delivered by Listyo after a pilgrimage to Bung Karno’s Grave on Saturday, 20 June 2026. “Actually, it was explained yesterday by the Regional Police Chief that this is a series of activities that must be carried out by investigators,” Listyo said. Listyo explained that the detention of the suspects was carried out as part of the investigation stage before the case is transferred to the prosecutor’s office or enters phase II. According to him, investigators have a number of procedures that must be fulfilled before the transfer process is carried out. One of them is ensuring the suspects are in good condition. Therefore, investigators first conduct health checks and complete various administrative requirements needed in the legal process. “This is to ensure everything is in good order before being handed over to the prosecutor’s office,” he stated. The National Police Chief did not provide further explanation regarding the substance of the case. However, he stressed that the steps taken by investigators are part of the process that must be carried out in accordance with legal provisions. Previously, Polda Metro Jaya had announced the detention of Roy Suryo and Dr Tifa in connection with the case of alleged dissemination of false accusations about Jokowi’s diploma. Head of Public Relations of Polda Metro Jaya, Police Commissioner Budi Hermanto, explained that both were detained after investigators assessed that the elements of the articles alleged in the case had been fulfilled. According to Budi, investigators applied a number of articles related to alleged criminal acts of defamation, slander through information technology means, and alleged manipulation of electronic information. “And or manipulation, creation, alteration, destruction of electronic information that is considered as if it were authentic data and or altering, reducing, transmitting, damaging, moving, hiding an electronic information belonging to another person in conjunction with a continuing offence,” Budi said during a press conference on Friday, 19 June 2026.
