National Police Chief: Scout Values are Essential Capital for Facing the Demographic Bonus
National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo stated that the values of discipline, leadership, mutual cooperation, independence, and social care instilled through Scout activities serve as essential capital for the younger generation to face future challenges.
Furthermore, Indonesia is set to face the momentum of a demographic bonus that must be utilised to its fullest potential. According to Sigit, the large population of productive age will become a national strength if accompanied by improvements in human resource quality through education, skill mastery, character building, and increased competitiveness.
This was conveyed by the National Police Chief while attending the National Scout Camp of the Persatuan Ummat Islam (PUI) 2026 at the Selabintana Camping Ground, Sukabumi Regency, West Java, on Thursday (3/9). The event was attended by approximately 5,499 participants, including Scouts, students, university students, PUI youth, teachers, administrators, and PUI figures.
Specifically, he expressed his appreciation to PUI and the Scout Movement for their consistent role as platforms for youth development. He noted that Scout education plays a crucial role in forming a generation that is characterised by discipline, independence, skill, and a spirit of service to the community, nation, and state. “Scouting is a strategic platform in preparing the next generation and future national leaders,” said Sigit.
In line with this, the government is opening and expanding opportunities for the younger generation to access quality education through various programmes, including Sekolah Rakyat, excellence schools, transformation schools, LPDP, and various other human resource development programmes.
Furthermore, Sigit reminded students and the youth to be wise in using technology and social media. Technological advancements should be used for learning, developing creativity, expanding horizons, and producing beneficial works. The younger generation was urged to avoid behaviours that could ruin their future, such as online gambling, drug abuse, brawls, involvement in gangs, and the spread of negative content or ideologies through digital spaces.
On the same occasion, the National Police Chief invited the PUI community to continue playing their part in maintaining national unity by strengthening the values of moderate Islam (Islam wasathiyah) and upholding commitment to Pancasila, Bhinneka Tunggal Ika, and the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia. A nationalistic spirit and moderate religious values are considered essential foundations for nurturing Indonesia’s diversity.
Sigit also expressed support for the proposal to grant the title of National Hero to the founding figures of PUI, as a form of recognition for their struggle, service, and contribution to the nation and state.
Beyond character building, Sigit hoped that the Scout movement would become increasingly present and provide tangible benefits to society. Scouts are encouraged to be actively involved in social services, disaster management, assisting in community security, maintaining cleanliness, and preserving the environment.
“The Scout spirit must be realised through real action. Be a generation that not only has great ambitions but also cares for others, is ready to help the community, and is capable of providing benefits to the surrounding environment,” he said.
He emphasised that the National Police (Polri) is ready to be a friend to the younger generation in developing their potential and achieving their dreams. Synergy between the National Police, PUI, the Scout Movement, the education sector, and all elements of society is expected to strengthen the preparation of a superior and characterised younger generation.
“The youths standing here today as Scouts are the successors and future leaders of Indonesia. Continue to learn, train, create, and provide benefits to society. Prepare yourselves as best as possible to lead Indonesia towards becoming an increasingly advanced and competitive nation,” concluded Police Chief Sigit.
