Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Chief of the Indonesian National Police (Kapolri), General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, believes that the ratification of the revision to Law Number 2 of 2002 concerning the National Police allows the force more freedom to support the government’s strategic programmes.

“In the recently passed law, Alhamdulillah, a point was added stating that the National Police can implement national strategic policies for national interests upon the President’s orders,” said Listyo during a presentation at the National Police Commission (Kompolnas) Supervisory Coordination Meeting in North Jakarta on Wednesday.

According to Listyo, the government is currently aggressively promoting strategic programmes in the food sector to ensure national food stocks remain robust amidst ongoing global conflicts.

One of the government’s efforts involves encouraging all elements of the state to participate in programmes aimed at converting land into food barns.

Listyo noted that the National Police is supporting the President’s vision by transforming several pieces of idle land in various regions into corn granaries.

In addition to the development of food barns, he mentioned that the public has reacted positively to the National Police’s involvement in establishing 1,000 Nutritional Fulfilment Service Units (SPPG) across the country.

With the ratification of the revised Police Law, the National Police now possesses strong legal legitimacy to execute these programmes.

“Therefore, this serves as a legal umbrella for us to be present in supporting government programmes, because if these are not carried out effectively, the ultimate result is a disruption to public order and security,” Listyo explained.

Listyo continued, noting that all of the National Police’s initiatives, ranging from food barns to the SPPG—which have received praise from President Prabowo Subianto—are currently operating at maximum capacity.

With the support of the new law, Listyo is confident that the force will be even more effective in managing corn production and the SPPG to strengthen national food security.
