National Police Chief Reveals Polri's Role in Worker Welfare and Disability Inclusion
National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo has stated that the Indonesian National Police (Polri) plays a role in efforts to improve the welfare of workers in the country. He noted that Polri has also provided opportunities for persons with disabilities who wish to become members of the force.
The statement was made by General Sigit during his address at the 80th Bhayangkara Day celebration held at the Brimob Polri Training Centre in Cikeas, Bogor, West Java, on Wednesday (1/7/2026). The Police Chief initially spoke about the establishment of the Polri Labour Desk.
"Polri also plays a role in efforts to improve workers’ welfare through the establishment of the Polri Labour Desk down to the regional level, as a platform for strengthening dialogue and collaboration in resolving various labour issues and industrial relations," said General Sigit.
He stated that the Polri Labour Desk has facilitated the return to work of 4,216 workers affected by layoffs and handled 267 labour crime cases, 40 of which were resolved through restorative justice. For these efforts, Polri received an award from the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC).
"Through these various efforts, Polri received an award from the ITUC for its hard work and dedication in providing protection to workers," he said.
Furthermore, the Police Chief mentioned that Polri has given 160 accomplished athletes from the SEA Games, PON, and various other championships the opportunity to serve within the institution through a Proactive Recruitment scheme under the talent scouting category.
In addition, Polri continues to strengthen an inclusive culture. General Sigit said Polri has opened up opportunities for 21 persons with disabilities to serve as members of the force.
"Polri has opened up opportunities for 21 persons with disabilities to become part of the Bhayangkara corps. This commitment is reinforced through the development of the Directorate of Crimes against Women and Children and the Directorate of Crimes against Vulnerable Persons in 11 Regional Police and 22 District Police, so that case handling can be carried out more responsively," he added.
