Jakarta (ANTARA) — Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo has disclosed the role of the Indonesian Government in maintaining peace amid the current global conflicts.

Quoting from an official statement, the Police Chief at a Ramadhan gathering with the DPD of the Confederation of All Indonesian Workers’ Union (KSPSI) West Java in Bekasi on Friday said that the global situation is unsettled due to the escalation between Iran and the United States and Israel.

The Indonesian Government, as a non-aligned country, he said, continues to undertake various efforts to create peace.

‘The government continues to strive hard as a non-aligned country to implement free and active politics. Indonesia wants to play an active role in mediating Palestine and Israel with the two-state solution proposal,’ he said.

In addition to peace, he continued, the Government is also taking various steps to safeguard the economy.

He said the government continues to negotiate to reduce the tariff levels imposed by the United States on Indonesia. Through these efforts, the tariff could be reduced from 32 percent to 19 percent.

On the other hand, the head of the Bhayangkara Corps stressed that the government through the Astacita programme is also continuing to strive to create food and energy resilience so that Indonesia can be self-reliant and not depend on other countries.

Therefore, he asked that labour groups also unite to help maintain the investment climate in Indonesia so it can continue to grow.

He also urged labour groups to continue preparing themselves and improve their quality to avoid being outcompeted by other countries.

‘In the current global situation, in such conditions, whether we like it or not Indonesia must be able to be self-reliant, must be able to stand on its own feet. Therefore, we must be able to manage all natural resources we have and truly utilise them for our people, for our nation,’ he said.
