National Police Chief Reveals Achievements in Combating Oil and Gas Mafia, Claims State Saved from Rp756 Billion in Losses

National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo highlighted the crackdown on crimes in the oil and gas sector as a key achievement during the 80th Bhayangkara Day commemoration. Throughout the first six months of 2026, the police claim to have saved the state from potential financial losses exceeding Rp756 billion.

The achievement was presented directly by the National Police Chief in a report before President Prabowo Subianto during the Bhayangkara Day ceremony at the Police Mobile Brigade Training Centre in Cikeas, Bogor Regency, on Wednesday, 1 July 2026.

According to Sigit, law enforcement in the energy sector continued to be strengthened during the January to June 2026 period. In that time, the police handled 464 criminal cases and named 594 individuals as suspects. From this series of disclosures, investigators also seized large quantities of evidence, including 669,000 litres of diesel, 80,000 litres of Pertalite, and 30,000 LPG cylinders of various sizes.

“With an estimated saving of state financial losses of more than Rp756 billion,” he stated.

The National Police Chief revealed that one of the most prominent cases was the uncovering of the misuse of distribution involving 120,000 litres of subsidised biodiesel, which was allegedly misappropriated by the perpetrators. In that case, the police confiscated various means used to transport the subsidised fuel, ranging from a vessel to transport vehicles.

“One of the prominent cases we successfully uncovered was the misuse of transporting 120,000 litres of subsidised biodiesel, with evidence including one tanker, two SPOB vessels, and seven transporter trucks,” he said.

In addition to taking action against criminals in the energy sector, Sigit stated that the National Police are also striving to support the energy self-sufficiency agenda through internal energy efficiency measures. One such step is the utilisation of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) as an energy source for the operations of 50 Nutrition Fulfilment Service Units, or kitchens for the Free Nutritious Meals Programme, belonging to the police force.
