National Police Chief Requests Involvement of Community Security Officers in Patrols During Eid Exodus
JAKARTA — National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo has instructed police forces to involve community security officers (pamswakarsa) in patrols to prevent potential security and public order disruptions during the exodus period and Eid celebrations for 1447 Hijriah.
This directive was announced by Sigit whilst leading the Operation Ketupat 2026 deployment ceremony at the National Monument area in Central Jakarta on Thursday (12 March 2026).
“Conduct regular patrols involving pamswakarsa, especially at vulnerable locations and times,” Sigit stated in his address.
According to Sigit, the involvement of community security elements is crucial for strengthening security during the Eid exodus period, given the high volume of public movement during this time.
Potential disturbances include conventional crime, racketeering, illegal racing, and inter-group violence. Beyond increasing patrols, Sigit also instructed police to document vacant homes left behind by residents during the exodus.
The police will also provide motor vehicle custody services at police stations and government offices to provide reassurance to residents leaving their vehicles during the exodus period.
Operation Ketupat 2026 will run for 13 days from 13 to 25 March 2026, involving 161,243 combined personnel from the National Police, Military, and various relevant ministries and agencies.
These posts will function as information and service centres for the public travelling during the Eid exodus and return journey.
Beyond securing exodus routes, authorities will also focus on protecting 185,607 sites distributed across various regions, including mosques, Eid prayer venues, tourist attractions, shopping centres, terminals, ports, railway stations, and airports.
“I must again emphasise that the success of Operation Ketupat is our collective responsibility. Therefore, continue to strengthen cohesion and synergy in every task execution,” Sigit stated.
