JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The National Police Chief, General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, has promised to provide space for critical voices from students and youth groups.

“On one hand, we will always provide space for our friends, the youth, and students to continue to voice their opinions, because that is part of democratic life,” Sigit told reporters on Thursday (26/2/2026).

Sigit spoke after attending an iftar event with youth organisations (OKP), student organisations, and elements of civil society at the Police College (STIK) in Jakarta.

Sigit said that the current global situation is facing various challenges, thus requiring national preparedness and solidarity.

“We know that the current global situation is not in good shape. This means that we must continue to prepare to face the implications of global impacts, and of course, we need unity,” he said.

On that occasion, Sigit also stated that the Police are ready to receive evaluations and criticism from the public as part of the reform mandate.

“It is the duty of the Police to provide good service. The Police are also ready to always be evaluated and criticised so that it can bring the Police in line with the mandate and the reform agenda to become a civilian police force that can be close to and loved by the community,” he said.

He hopes that all elements of society will participate in maintaining and preserving the Police institution so that together they can realise the national ideals towards a Golden Indonesia 2045.
