Jakarta (ANTARA) - The National Police Chief (Kapolri) General Listyo Sigit Prabowo said that President Prabowo Subianto is striving to strengthen the nation’s independence in the face of current global conflict dynamics.

He noted that the government has established various policies and programmes for national independence, outlined in the Astacita mission, 17 priority programmes, eight programmes delivering quick top results, and eight national priority targets.

“These policies are realised through downstreaming of energy and industry as well as food self-sufficiency to strengthen national independence, so that Indonesia can stand on its own two feet,” Listyo said in a written statement received in Jakarta on Sunday.

He said the downstreaming carried out by the government across sectors includes the bauxite industry, electric batteries, automotive, semiconductors, and other strategic commodities.

Overall, he said, there are about 18 large downstreaming programmes, including waste-to-energy projects spread across 34 provinces.

In addition, strengthening has also been carried out in the food, fisheries, and food industry sectors.

The government also, the Kapolri said, is promoting higher oil lifting by opening new wells, optimising the management of old wells, and reducing dependence on imports from other countries, particularly in relation to food and energy.

“Such measures are expected to broaden economic space and create wide employment opportunities,” he said.

In addition, he said, one important thing to maintain is a conducive investment climate, so that downstreaming and investment can continue to grow, both through foreign investment (PMA) and domestic investment (PMDN).

Regarding global conflicts, the Kapolri explained that the Indonesian government continues to pursue diplomacy with an active independent foreign policy, accompanied by a commitment to the non-aligned principle to mitigate the impacts of global escalation.

In addition, he said, Indonesia also plays an active role in promoting peace efforts between Palestine and Israel, as well as Iran and Israel–United States, by joining the Board of Peace through a Two-State Solution approach.
