Jakarta — National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo stated that President Prabowo Subianto has repeatedly emphasised the importance of unity and synergy between the Indonesian Military (TNI) and National Police (Polri) in safeguarding the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI).

This was conveyed by Sigit whilst attending a joint breaking of the fast event between TNI-Polri at Bhayangkara Field in Jakarta on Wednesday, 11 March 2026.

“The President has repeatedly stated in his speeches that the TNI and Polri must always be united, harmonious and synergistic,” Sigit said on Wednesday.

According to Sigit, the Head of State frequently emphasises that the TNI and Polri must remain united and harmonious because both institutions emerged from the struggle to defend Indonesian independence.

“For this reason, he consistently states that the TNI must be the people’s military and Polri must be the people’s police. He has repeatedly emphasised this,” he stated.

The National Police Chief reminded that following their oath of office, every TNI soldier and Polri member becomes part of the state with the responsibility to safeguard that mandate.

Sigit also emphasised that the roles of TNI and Polri are regulated under the 1945 Constitution, particularly Article 30, which governs the system of universal defence and people’s security.

Under these provisions, the TNI and Polri serve as the primary forces for maintaining national defence and security, whilst the people serve as supporting forces.

He stated that the TNI is tasked with protecting and maintaining national integrity and sovereignty, whilst Polri is responsible for maintaining public security and order, protecting, serving and upholding the law.

“This becomes the fundamental capital, the principal asset for the state, for the nation, for society, so that development can proceed, because the primary prerequisite for development is security stability and public order stability,” he said.

“This is what we must always uphold,” he added.
