National Police Chief: President orders thorough investigation into acid attack on activist
Surabaya — National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo stated that President Prabowo Subianto has ordered a thorough investigation into the alleged acid attack on KontraS activist Andrie Yunus, conducted in a professional, transparent manner and employing scientific investigative methods.
“Regarding developments in the activist acid attack case, I have received a direct order from the President to conduct a thorough, professional and transparent investigation,” Sigit said while inspecting Gubeng Station in Surabaya on Sunday.
He explained that the investigative process would be conducted using a scientific crime investigation approach to ensure each stage of case handling was carried out objectively and based on evidence.
Additionally, he said, the police are currently gathering various information related to the incident for further in-depth analysis.
“Currently we are collecting information and that information will subsequently be examined one by one,” he stated.
Sigit added that the National Police would also establish a complaint post for members of the public who possess information related to the case so they can report directly to the police.
He emphasised that all information from the public would be followed up and that protection would be guaranteed to those assisting the investigation process.
“All information provided by the public who help us will be given protection guarantees,” he said.
Meanwhile, he has requested his subordinates work maximally in gathering statements and evidence needed to uncover the case.
According to him, investigative developments would subsequently be conveyed regularly through the complaint post and through the National Police Public Affairs Division.
“We will provide regular information after there are developments from the collection of information we receive,” he said.
