National Police Chief Prepares Traffic Management Strategy to Anticipate Homecoming Rush During Eid 2026
JAKARTA — National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo has announced that his forces have prepared traffic management measures to anticipate the flow of homebound and return traffic during the Eid or Idul Fitri 1447 Hijri holiday period in 2026.
The announcement was made following his leadership of the Operation Ketupat 2026 force mobilisation parade at the National Monument field (Monas) in Jakarta on Thursday, 12 March 2026.
“We will implement traffic management and engineering measures on both toll routes and arterial roads,” said Sigit, as quoted from Kompas TV’s YouTube broadcast on Friday, 13 March 2026.
Operation Ketupat 2026 will run for 13 days, from 13 to 25 March 2026, involving 161,243 combined personnel from the National Police, Armed Forces, and various relevant ministries and agencies.
To support homecoming security, the National Police has prepared 2,746 posts comprising 1,624 security posts, 779 service posts, and 343 integrated posts.
Beyond securing the homecoming routes, authorities will also focus on securing 185,607 locations across various areas, including mosques, Eid prayer venues, tourist attractions, shopping centres, terminals, ports, railway stations, and airports.
“The success of Operation Ketupat is our shared responsibility. Therefore, continue to strengthen solidarity and synergy in every task implementation, together we will realise safe homecoming and happy families,” said Sigit.
Based on government predictions, the peak of the first wave of homebound traffic will occur between 15 and 16 March 2026. The second wave is anticipated on 18-19 March 2026.
“The public is urged to plan their travel times to avoid vehicle congestion,” said Sigit.
During the 2026 Eid holiday period, the National Police estimates that 143.9 million people will travel during the Idul Fitri 1447 Hijri holiday.
“Although this is a slight decrease from last year, this figure remains very large and requires special handling,” said Sigit.
