National Police Chief Outlines President's Vision for National Self-Reliance, Urges Unity Across the Nation
National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo spoke about the President Prabowo Subianto’s vision and steps to realise national self-reliance amid today’s dynamic global situation. The Chief urged all elements of the nation to unite for Indonesia’s progress.
The remarks were made as he led an appeal involving ojol and public safety and security workers in Palembang, South Sumatra, on Sunday 8 March 2026. The Chief began by addressing the current global situation, which he said is not in good shape.
He noted that the conflict in the Middle East has driven up world oil prices, with potential price spikes in the region and domestically. The Chief hopes the war in the Middle East will end soon and peace efforts can be achieved.
The Chief said the government continues to conduct diplomacy upholding the principle of an independent and active foreign policy. In addition, he said, Indonesia is also active in various global forums to advocate peace.
In light of the global situation, the Chief stated that the government has established a range of programmes and policies articulated in Asta Cita, including 17 priority programmes, eight ‘fast-track’ programmes and nine national priority targets.
“These policies are realised through downstream energy and industry development and food self-sufficiency to strengthen national self-reliance, so that Indonesia can stand on its own feet,” the Chief said.
The Chief added that the government is continuing to push downstream development across various sectors, including the bauxite industry, electric batteries, automotive, semiconductors and other strategic commodities. He said there is also strengthening in the food, fisheries and food industry sectors.
“The government is also promoting increased oil lifting by opening new wells, optimising the management of older wells, and reducing dependence on imports from other countries, especially regarding food and energy,” the Chief said.
The Chief said these steps are expected to open up economic space and broad job opportunities. Support from workers and the ojol community is considered important for these programmes.
“One important thing to safeguard is a conducive investment climate, so downstream development and investment can continue to grow, both through Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) and Domestic Investment (PMDN).”
The Chief also called on all elements of the nation to maintain unity. He hopes the public will not be easily provoked.
“In such circumstances, the strength of all elements of the nation is required, including workers and the online motorcycle taxi community, to stay united in safeguarding national unity, not to be easily provoked, and together safeguard national stability,” the Chief said.
