National Police Chief orders regional police chiefs to prepare a panic-button app for ojol
Jakarta (ANTARA) — The Chief of the Indonesian National Police (Kapolri) General Listyo Sigit Prabowo has instructed all regional police chiefs to prepare a panic-button application for all online motorcycle taxi drivers (ojol). In a briefing in Jakarta on Sunday, the Kapolri said the app aims to protect and ensure the safety of ojol who are vulnerable to crime. ‘To protect online motorcycle taxi riders who are potential victims of robbery with violence (curas/begal), I ask the regional police chiefs to promptly prepare the panic-button application,’ Sigit said as he led the Ojol and Kamtibmas Ngayo Bumi Sriwijaya Aman Bae rally at the Bumi Sriwijaya Stadium, Palembang, South Sumatra, on Sunday. The four-star general emphasised that the Police would remain committed to ensuring ojol safety from all forms of street crime, among others through the panic-button app. ‘(This application) is to protect and safeguard online motorcycle taxi drivers so they do not become victims of crime on the streets,’ he said. In addition, he added, the Police will prepare places where ojol drivers can access several free services. For example, motorcycle servicing and rest areas. The former Kabareskrim of the Police (Mantan Kabareskrim Pori) also asked his ranks to strengthen collaboration and synergy through any activities between the police and online motorcycle taxi drivers. ‘Moreover, I also request that in each region there be facilities to help provide services such as free workshops, online ojek cafés, and continue building partnerships between the Police and online motorcycle taxi drivers in the region,’ Sigit said. While leading the Ojol and Kamtibmas Nyago Bumi Sriwijaya Aman Bae rally in Palembang, the Kapolri also emphasised that all ojol and workers should uphold values of unity and national stability.
