National Police Chief: Operation Ketupat 2026 reduces accident fatalities by 30.4 percent

National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo stated that Operation Ketupat 2026 reduced traffic accident fatalities by up to 30.4 per cent and the number of accidents by 5.3 per cent during the Idul Fitri exodus and return flow. In his speech at the 80th Bhayangkara Anniversary commemoration, followed online in Jakarta on Wednesday, the National Police Chief said this achievement was the result of synergy between the National Police, the Ministry of Transportation, and various stakeholders in securing public mobility during the Lebaran holiday period, while supporting road user safety and the smooth flow of both the exodus and return journeys. “Together with the Ministry of Transportation of the Republic of Indonesia and related stakeholders, the National Police held Operation Ketupat 2026 to secure the exodus and return flow, thereby reducing the number of accidents by 5.3 per cent and suppressing fatalities by 30.4 per cent,” said Sigit. He stated that the success of the operation was also reflected in a survey showing an 85.3 per cent public satisfaction rate with the security arrangements for the 2026 Lebaran exodus and return flow. According to the National Police Chief, the smooth mobility of the public during the Idul Fitri holiday also had a positive impact on national economic activity. He mentioned that the successful security operation for the exodus and return flow drove a money circulation of up to Rp161.8 trillion, which helped support economic growth. “This successful security operation also spurred a money circulation of up to Rp161.8 trillion, contributing to maintaining national economic growth,” he said. In addition to securing the homecoming flow, the National Police Chief said the force continues to optimise its duties in maintaining public security and order through various centralised and regional operations. These security measures cover state guest visits, national and international agendas, Christmas and New Year holidays, Idul Fitri, and disaster response assistance. In handling natural disasters in Sumatra, for example, the National Police deployed 4,106 personnel to distribute logistical aid, operate hundreds of heavy equipment units, provide health services to tens of thousands of victims, conduct victim searches with K9 units, evacuate and identify 1,146 bodies, build 47 bridges including six bailey bridges, and construct 351 boreholes and 300 permanent dwellings to accelerate the recovery of affected areas. The National Police Chief emphasised that these various efforts are part of the force’s commitment to maintaining security stability as a prerequisite for sustainable national development while ensuring optimal public services.
