National Police Chief on Jakarta Being Guarded by a Three-Star General: Presidential Order
The National Police Chief, General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, stated that the promotion of the Jakarta Metropolitan Police Chief to a three-star general, or Commissioner General (Komjen), is a follow-up to the directive of Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto.
Not only the Jakarta Metropolitan Police Chief, but Listyo also stated that the Commander of the Jaya Military Command is now also held by a high-ranking TNI AD officer with the rank of Lieutenant General, which is also a three-star rank.
Listyo said that President Prabowo had previously directed that the positions of Commander of the Jaya Military Command and Jakarta Metropolitan Police Chief be filled by high-ranking officers with a three-star rank.
“This is a follow-up to the President’s directive that in Jakarta, the Commander of the Military Command and the Police Chief should be three-star generals,” said Listyo in Jakarta on Thursday (May 14), as quoted by Antara.
With this decision, the current Jakarta Metropolitan Police Chief, Asep Edi Suheri, has been promoted from Inspector General (Irjen) with a two-star rank to Commissioner General (Komjen) with a three-star rank.
The promotion of the Jakarta Metropolitan Police Chief to a three-star rank only occurred this week. The Head of Public Relations of the Jakarta Metropolitan Police, Commissioner Pol Budi Hermanto, confirmed the promotion.
He said that the change in Asep’s rank was based on Presidential Decree of the Republic of Indonesia Number 38/POLRI/YEAR 2026 dated May 13, 2026.
“It is true that the current Jakarta Metropolitan Police Chief holds the rank of Commissioner General of Police based on Presidential Decree of the Republic of Indonesia Number 38/POLRI/YEAR 2026 dated May 13, 2026,” said Budi in the middle of this week.
Meanwhile, the promotion of the Commander of the Jaya Military Command occurred in March 2026. At that time, the Commander of the Jaya Military Command, Deddy Suryadi, was promoted from Brigadier General (two-star) to Lieutenant General.
This makes the Jaya Military Command the only Military Command in Indonesia led by a Lieutenant General.
Thus, Jakarta is now the only region in Indonesia where the Police Chief and the Military Commander are both three-star generals.
Asep Edi Suheri was born in Tasikmalaya, West Java, on November 16, 1972. A graduate of the Police Academy (Akpol) in 1994, he is known for his extensive experience in the field of investigation and law enforcement.
Throughout his career, he has handled many cases, including cybercrime, narcotics, and transnational crime.
Before serving as the Jakarta Metropolitan Police Chief in 2025, Asep had held several strategic positions, starting from the Chief of Police of Cirebon City in 2011, Deputy Chief of the Bekasi City Police in 2015, to the Chief of the Tangerang Police in 2016.
His career continued at the National Police Criminal Investigation Unit (Bareskrim Polri) as the Deputy Director of Special Economic Crimes in 2020, Director of Special Cyber Crimes in 2021, and Deputy Head of the National Police Criminal Investigation Unit in 2022.
Asep was previously appointed as the Jakarta Metropolitan Police Chief through Telegram Number ST/1764/VIII/KEP./2025, replacing Karyoto, who was appointed as the Head of the National Police Security Agency (Kabaharkam Polri).
