National Police Chief: Military-Police Synergy and National Unity are Key to Safeguarding the Republic
Jakarta – Indonesia’s National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo has stressed the importance of maintaining and strengthening synergy between the military (TNI) and police (Polri) in conjunction with all national elements as the key to protecting the Republic from various threats.
“Going forward, we must maintain solidarity, preserve synergy, and ensure that the TNI-Polri can truly fulfil their mandate in facing the current global dynamics and addressing global impacts and threats to the domestic situation,” Sigit said whilst addressing TNI-Polri officials during a joint breaking of fast ceremony at Bhayangkara Field in Jakarta on Wednesday.
The four-star police general also reminded attendees of President Prabowo Subianto’s message that the TNI and Polri must always work in synergy and unity to continue upholding Indonesia’s sovereignty and security.
“The President has repeatedly stated in his speeches that the TNI and Polri must always be united, coordinated, and synergistic. He has noted that both the TNI and Polri were born from the struggle for independence and played a role in maintaining that independence,” he said.
Therefore, Sigit emphasised, President Prabowo’s message must be fully heeded and properly implemented. “This is why the President always emphasises that the TNI must become the people’s military, and Polri must become the people’s police,” he asserted.
Sigit explained that the TNI-Polri fundamentally constitute a unified force that complement each other in safeguarding the nation’s defence and security. This, he noted, would create a safe and conducive environment for all Indonesians.
“This unity between the TNI-Polri and the people must continue to be preserved as a single force to protect our beloved nation,” he said. “This is the fundamental capital, the primary asset for the state, nation, and society to build upon, because the primary requirement for development is security and stability.”
The former chief of the Police’s Criminal Investigation Unit also underscored the importance of maintaining the values of unity and integration. Through these principles, Indonesia can face all manner of challenges and dynamics.
“If we maintain complete solidarity and ensure all national elements remain coordinated, then whatever we face, we will be capable of overcoming it,” Sigit said.
