National Police Chief Invites Youth to Become Security Ambassadors, Urges Reporting via 110 Service
The closing of the Kapolri Cup 2026 E-Sports tournament became a key moment for the National Police to engage with the e-sports community and the younger generation. National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo invited athletes and digital game enthusiasts to take an active role in maintaining security in the digital space while serving as role models in their social environments.
General Sigit emphasised that the e-sports sector is no longer just a hobby but a professional ecosystem that has spawned various new professions, from athletes and content creators to cyber security experts. This rapid growth aligns with internet penetration in Indonesia, which has reached 229 million users, or 80.7 per cent of the total population.
However, the National Police Chief cautioned that the rapid expansion of Indonesia’s digital economy, which has hit US$99 billion, is also shadowed by increasingly complex cybercrime risks, ranging from rampant online gambling to various digital scam modus operandi.
In his address, the National Police Chief highlighted that the turnover of online gambling funds, based on PPATK data for the first half of 2026, still reached Rp86.82 trillion across 467.32 million transactions. Beyond online gambling, digital scam methods are also becoming more diverse, including social engineering, personal data theft, fake QRIS codes, and the exploitation of artificial intelligence.
‘From November 2024 to July 2026, the Indonesia Anti-Scam Centre has received 636,014 public reports, with total funds successfully blocked reaching Rp723.7 billion,’ General Sigit stated.
Facing the complexity of these threats, the National Police continues to enhance law enforcement through the establishment of Cyber Directorates in eight priority regional police forces, which throughout 2026 have uncovered 1,743 cases. However, the National Police Chief stressed that prevention efforts require the active participation of the youth themselves.
The former Head of the Criminal Investigation Agency specifically asked the participants of the Kapolri Cup 2026 E-Sports tournament to use their significant influence to guide their peers towards more beneficial activities.
‘I entrust a message to all participants: you are not only the best athletes and talents in e-sports, but also agents of change who have great influence in shaping culture in the digital space. Use that influence to encourage the younger generation to abandon various counterproductive activities, such as illegal street racing, brawls, and vandalism, and to switch to positive, productive, and high-achieving activities,’ the National Police Chief asserted.
General Sigit also invited the participants to officially become Security and Public Order Ambassadors who synergise directly with the police in stemming various potential crimes in both the real and virtual worlds.
‘Therefore, I invite all participants of the Kapolri Cup 2026 E-Sports tournament to become Security and Public Order Ambassadors by playing an active role and collaborating with the National Police to eradicate the spread of hoaxes, hate speech, radicalism, bullying, online gambling, and drug abuse,’ he added.
The National Police Chief also urged the youth not to hesitate to report any security disturbances or criminal acts around them.
‘If you encounter security disturbances or indications of crime, do not hesitate to report them to us through various complaint channels such as the 110 service, patrolisiber.id, and others,’ General Sigit appealed.
In his closing remarks, the National Police Chief delivered a rousing message to the young athletes to continue making a positive impact on their surroundings.
‘Be champions in competition, agents of change in social circles, and guardians of goodness in the digital space,’ he concluded.
