National Police Chief Inaugurates East Java KSPSI AGN Building, Supports Workers' Welfare
National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo has inaugurated the building of the East Java Regional Executive Board (DPD) of the All-Indonesia Workers’ Union Confederation (KSPSI) AGN. The building represents a commitment to supporting worker empowerment in East Java.
Construction of the East Java KSPSI AGN DPD building first began in 1988 through the self-help spirit and mutual cooperation of members, spearheaded by Dendy Prayitno and colleagues. However, since 1990, construction stalled due to various problems and obstacles, leaving the building unfinished and unable to function optimally.
After more than three decades, efforts to reorganise and revitalise the building were resumed in mid-2025 at the initiative of KSPSI President Andi Gani Nena Wea. The process continued until the building was finally completed this year.
The inauguration by the National Police Chief marks the start of the building’s use after decades of being unable to function optimally. The building is now equipped with organisational rooms, meeting rooms, a hall that can be used for training, a health clinic, a minimarket, and a space for MSME empowerment.
In his remarks, General Sigit expressed appreciation to KSPSI President Andi Gani Nena Wea and the entire East Java KSPSI AGN leadership for driving the completion of the building’s construction and revitalisation. The Police Chief expressed hope that the building would not only serve as a centre for organisational activities but also become a great home for workers to fight for their rights and improve their welfare.
“I hope this building truly becomes a great home, not only for members of KSPSI AGN East Java, but also for the Grand Coalition of the Indonesian Workers’ Struggle,” General Sigit told reporters on Friday (21/8/2026).
The Police Chief also encouraged that following the formation of the Grand Coalition of the Indonesian Workers’ Struggle (KBPBI) at the central level, the strengthening of the workers’ base could continue to be developed down to the provincial level. The establishment of a KBPBI Joint Secretariat is also expected to be carried out not only at the centre but also developed in the regions.
According to General Sigit, the building needs to continue to be optimised as a means of fighting for workers’ rights and welfare, providing services and counselling, and serving as a space to discuss various labour issues constructively.
In addition, the building is expected to become a space for dialogue between employers and workers in resolving various issues, thereby creating conducive industrial relations and a better investment climate.
The Police Chief stressed that optimising the use of the building requires the support and collaboration of all stakeholders. In this regard, the Indonesian National Police is committed to being present as a strategic partner in maintaining public order and security while supporting the realisation of equitable industrial relations.
The inauguration of the East Java KSPSI AGN DPD building also marks a new momentum after decades of stalled construction, while opening up broader space for strengthening services, empowerment, and the struggle of workers in East Java.
