National Police Chief hopes new KSPSI AGN East Java building becomes a home for workers' struggle
National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo has expressed hope that the newly revitalised building of the Regional Executive Board (DPD) of the All-Indonesia Workers Union Confederation (KSPSI) AGN in East Java can become a home for workers to fight for their rights.
“I hope this building truly becomes a great home, not only for members of KSPSI AGN East Java, but also for the Grand Coalition of the Indonesian Workers’ Struggle (KBPBI),” said Sigit while inaugurating the building in Surabaya on Friday, as quoted from an official statement.
Beyond serving as a facility to advocate for workers’ rights and welfare, Sigit said the building must also be optimised to provide services and counselling for workers, as well as a space to discuss various labour issues constructively.
Furthermore, the building is expected to serve as a dialogue space between employers and workers in resolving various issues, thereby creating a conducive industrial relations climate and a better investment environment.
In optimising the use of the building, he said, the KSPSI AGN East Java Regional Board requires support and collaboration from all stakeholders.
To that end, Sigit stated that the National Police is committed to being a strategic partner for workers in maintaining public security and order (kamtibmas) while supporting the realisation of equitable industrial relations.
The leader of the Bhayangkara Corps also encouraged that following the establishment of KBPBI at the central level, the strengthening of the workers’ base should continue to be developed down to the provincial level.
For context, construction of the KSPSI AGN East Java building first began in 1988 through the spirit of self-help and mutual cooperation among members, spearheaded by Dendy Prayitno and colleagues.
However, since 1990, construction stalled due to various problems and obstacles, leaving the building unfinished and unable to function optimally.
After more than three decades, revitalisation and reorganisation efforts were resumed in mid-2025 at the initiative of KSPSI President Andi Gani Nena Wea. The process continued until the building was finally completed in 2026.
The inauguration by National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo marked the beginning of the building’s use after decades of being unable to function optimally.
The building is now equipped with organisational rooms, meeting rooms, a hall that can be used for training, a health clinic, a minimarket, and a space for MSME empowerment.
