JAKARTA — National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo has revealed that the peak travel surge for the Eid holiday (Idul Fitri 1447 Hijriah/2026) will occur in two waves.

Based on government forecasts, the first peak is expected between 15-16 March 2026, whilst the second peak is anticipated for 18-19 March 2026, Sigit said during the Ketupat Operation briefing at the National Monument Field (Monas) in Jakarta on Thursday, 12 March 2026.

“The public is urged to arrange their travel times carefully to avoid vehicle congestion,” Sigit stated.

During the 2026 Eid holiday period, the National Police estimates that 143.9 million people will travel throughout the Eid break. This figure represents a slight decrease compared with the actual figure for Eid 2025, which reached 146.4 million people.

“Although marginally lower than last year, this figure remains very substantial and requires special handling measures,” Sigit explained.

To support the management of the holiday travel rush, the National Police has prepared 2,746 posts comprising 1,624 security posts, 779 service posts, and 343 integrated posts. These posts will function as information centres and service hubs for travellers during both the outbound and return journey phases of the Eid holiday.

“On this occasion, I must emphasise once more that the success of the Ketupat Operation is our collective responsibility. Therefore, we must continue to strengthen solidarity and synergy in every aspect of our duties,” Sigit concluded.
