National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo has assured that the entire series of events commemorating the 81st anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia will proceed safely and conducively. The National Police have synergised with all ministries, institutions, and regional governments to maintain security stability.

This was conveyed by General Sigit after attending a closed meeting regarding ‘Synergy in Maintaining Political and National Security Stability’ at the Coordinating Ministry for Political, Legal and Security Affairs office in Central Jakarta on Wednesday (5/8/2026).

“We, together with all ministries and institutions, particularly those tasked with maintaining security stability, are working together with all regional governments across Indonesia,” said General Sigit in response to reporters’ questions regarding the National Police’s security preparations ahead of the Independence Day celebrations.

He stated that coordination is continuously being carried out to monitor the series of independence events that have already begun. The main focus is to guarantee a sense of security for the public.

“At all times, we coordinate to ensure that the entire series of events leading up to the 17th celebrations, which have already been initiated by the government, can proceed safely,” he said.

The former Chief of the Criminal Investigation Agency also invited the public to welcome Independence Day in positive ways and to safeguard national unity.

“We urge everyone, this is our celebration, our 81st independence celebration, our shared celebration. Let us welcome it together, celebrate it well together, and maintain the integrity of this nation,” he urged.

Previously, Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Djamari Chaniago stressed the importance of maintaining public calm ahead of the Independence Day celebrations on 17 August. This was also in response to the proliferation of provocative content on social media narrating the issue of riots in August.

“This kind of calm is very much needed, especially as we approach the celebration of our 81st Independence Day which we will commemorate shortly,” said Djamari.

He expressed hope that this year’s celebration would be filled with joy, not fear caused by false information. Therefore, Djamari urged the public not to be influenced by negative narratives deliberately spread by irresponsible parties.

“Together, we must remain calm and happy. Let us not allow our society to be tainted by such issues (hoaxes/provocations) as I mentioned earlier,” he concluded.
