National Police Chief encourages good and constructive industrial relations
National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo is encouraging good and constructive industrial relations between workers and employers amid the increasingly rapid changes in the world of work.
He made the remarks at the inauguration of the Regional Executive Board (DPD) building of the All-Indonesia Workers Union Confederation (KSPSI) AGN in Surabaya, East Java, on Friday.
According to an official statement, Sigit said workers hold an important position in the national economy. The country’s economic growth cannot be separated from the contribution of workers who daily drive the wheels of production, industry, trade and the economy.
However, he said, the struggle to improve workers’ welfare must go hand in hand with efforts to maintain business continuity and Indonesia’s competitiveness.
The Police Chief also highlighted the communication that has been established between trade unions and employers, including the Indonesian Employers’ Association (Apindo), in discussing various labour issues.
He assessed that this space for dialogue is a positive development because workers and employers can sit together to find common ground.
“This is a good start,” he said.
According to him, agreements reached through joint dialogue can become a foundation for building increasingly better industrial relations.
“Hopefully this will become a fresh wind in industrial relations in Indonesia,” he said.
On the occasion, the leader of the Bhayangkara Corps also highlighted the role of the Police Labour Desk in helping to resolve various workers’ issues.
Since 2025 to date, the Police Labour Desk has handled 324 industrial relations cases, including cases involving 1,062 KSPSI AGN workers. In addition, 4,505 workers affected by layoffs have been facilitated to return to work at a number of companies.
Sigit also stressed that the resolution of various labour issues must prioritise open communication and clear mechanisms.
“Let us resolve issues through dialogue. Let us maintain conducive industrial relations, because ultimately workers’ welfare, business continuity, and national economic progress are our common interest,” he said.
