National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo has commended the islah (reform) movement championed by the Islamic Union of Indonesia (Persatuan Ummat Islam/PUI). The police chief said the islah movement represents a comprehensive effort at improvement in preparing superior human resources for the future.

“We certainly greatly appreciate and value how these islah activities can truly produce the superior human resources needed for improvement and, of course, to prepare excellent future generations,” said the police chief whilst attending the pinnacle reception of the 108th anniversary of PUI in Majalengka, West Java, on Monday (23/2/2026).

The police chief emphasised that a strong nation is born from a community that continually strives for self-improvement to become better individuals. Such improvement encompasses character, values, and faith.

“And that is the formula — someone who can become a leader must have good faith, character, and values. Only then comes IQ, and all of this exists within PUI and its students,” said the police chief.

The former head of the National Police Criminal Investigation Agency predicted that many PUI figures would hold national leadership positions in the future. Moreover, according to him, PUI is currently led by energetic figures.

“Yes, I am optimistic and confident, especially as it is led by energetic figures who can certainly realise the aspirations of the entire PUI extended family,” said the police chief.

The police chief also conveyed a message from President Prabowo Subianto urging all elements of the nation to live in harmony and unity. According to him, national greatness cannot be achieved without harmony.

“Lastly, the President always conveys that there is no strong nation, no nation that can progress, if its leaders are not in harmony. Therefore, I always invite all parties — let us unite. So, on this occasion, I entrust to our friends at PUI, the extended PUI family, that the President’s message carries very deep meaning,” the police chief added.

The police chief also expressed gratitude to PUI for its support of the National Police under the President. He affirmed that the position of the National Police under the President is a mandate of the reform era.

“Furthermore, it is also enshrined in the Constitution that the National Police, as an instrument of the state tasked with law enforcement, maintaining public order and security, and providing protection, service, and domestic security to the public, must indeed be truly strong,” he said.
