National Police Chief Calls on Students to Support Government Policy in Response to Global Crisis
National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo emphasised the importance of unity amongst all segments of society in confronting global challenges, particularly the conflict in the Middle East, and called on student activists to support government policies.
The statement was delivered by the National Police Chief after attending the SEMMI National Consolidation at Aryaduta Hotel in Central Jakarta on Thursday (12 March 2026). The event was attended by the Chief of Police Intelligence (Kabaintelkam) General Yuda Gustawan, Police Personnel Chief Irjen Anwar, Police Discipline Division Head Irjen Abdul Karim, Police Public Relations Division Head Irjen Johnny Eddizon Isir, and Police Medical Services Head Irjen Asep Hendradiana.
General Sigit initially expressed appreciation for the invitation to the national consolidation, which served as a forum for fellowship between SEMMI cadres and the National Police institution. He expressed hope that this relationship would continue to strengthen cooperation in nation-building endeavours.
“This is an activity that continues to strengthen existing bonds of fellowship and we will continue to struggle together, collectively filling and building the nation,” said General Sigit.
During the occasion, the National Police Chief reminded attendees that the police have significant responsibility in the area of security, law enforcement, and public protection in accordance with the mandate of the Constitution and the spirit of reform. He emphasised that the police are inseparable from the student movement.
“The police are offspring of reform. Therefore, we will continue to carry out the mandate we have been given. We also ask all our activist friends to continue to safeguard our institution so that we can truly realise a civilian police force in accordance with public expectations,” he explained.
Addressing the international situation, the National Police Chief explained that the government of President Prabowo Subianto is currently endeavouring to pursue an independent and active foreign policy to maintain world peace whilst managing the effects of the global crisis. One of the government’s primary focuses is promoting national self-reliance across various sectors.
“The government continues to encourage us to be able to stand on our own feet. One way is by promoting food security and energy independence. We can accomplish all of this if we are solid, if we are united to move forward together,” he said.
Concluding his remarks, General Sigit reminded young people to prepare themselves for the demographic bonus period of 2030-2035. He expressed hope that the solidarity built today would serve as a foundation for achieving Golden Indonesia 2045.
“We must not allow this momentum to pass. In this crisis situation, let us be solid and united as a nation, moving from a developing country to a developed nation. We entrust this responsibility to the younger generation to prepare themselves as future leaders when Golden Indonesia arrives in 2045,” he concluded.
