The National Police Chief, General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, invited media representatives to participate in overseeing the performance of the police force. The Chief stated that the mass media is a strategic partner that plays a crucial role in maintaining national security.

This was conveyed by General Sigit during a joint Iftar event between the Police and the Media at Rupattama, Police Headquarters, South Jakarta, Wednesday (February 25, 2026) afternoon. The Chief appreciated the journalistic work in conveying information.

“We realize that the media has an extraordinary role in helping to maintain national security. Therefore, we view the media as a very strategic partner for the Police institution,” said General Sigit in his speech.

General Sigit ensured that the Police is very open to the function of the press as a social control tool. Therefore, the Chief asked the media not to hesitate to provide criticism and input.

“The Police will continue to work with media friends as a control tool, as a tool for criticism, but on the other hand also as a source of enlightenment for all of us. We realize that the voice of the media is the voice of the public that must be heard,” he said.

In this regard, General Sigit instructed all of his ranks to be sensitive and responsive to media reports. According to him, no matter how small the information that appears in the media, it often represents the cries, complaints, or aspirations of the community that must be immediately addressed.

“Please, all ranks, that no matter how small the voice from media friends, it is a cry from the community. We must take quick and responsive action to respond,” he instructed.

On that occasion, General Sigit also highlighted the challenges behind the development of technology, such as Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Deepfake. He warned of the dangers of misinformation and disinformation that can divide the nation.

“The development of AI, the development of deepfakes, which inevitably has a huge impact,” he said.

Therefore, General Sigit hopes that the press can be a clarifying force by presenting factual and reliable information. So that the public is not swept away by the flow of false news.

“Because the public really needs enlightenment. Of course, our hope, all of our hope, is that the media as one of the functions we expect can provide that enlightenment. We hope that friends in the media can provide factual information, information that can be trusted,” he added.

General Sigit also asked for media support to make the upcoming agenda a success, namely the humanitarian operation to secure the 2026 Eid homecoming traffic flow, entitled Operation Ketupat, which is operated by the Traffic Corps (Korlantas) of the National Police.

“Soon we will all carry out humanitarian operations, Operation Ketupat, where we will face the homecoming traffic flow,” said General Sigit.

He reminded all of his ranks to coordinate with related stakeholders to prepare for the smooth annual homecoming tradition.

“Because on the one hand, this is a homecoming tradition that is held every year by our nation. Maybe in other countries there is none or rarely, but Indonesia has a tradition,” he said.

“In that case, of course, we must provide certainty to the community so that they can go home safely, comfortably, and of course, it will be a joy in itself,” added the Chief of Police.

General Sigit assessed that the homecoming tradition is not just a forum for friendship. However, it also encourages economic activity from the center to the regions which can create a multiplier effect for people in villages.

“This is of course our common task to be able to organize this homecoming in the best possible way,” he said.
