National Police Chief Calls Labour Unions His 'Second Home'
National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo has described labour unions as his ‘second home’. He made the remarks while attending the 2026 National Working Meeting of the Confederation of All Indonesian Workers’ Unions (KSBSI).
General Listyo Sigit was previously appointed an Honorary Member of KSBSI. In his address, he said he increasingly meets with labour groups and feels a closeness with the wider trade union family.
“On the other hand, I feel that the more I meet with fellow workers, without realising it, this has become my second home,” Sigit said in Tanah Abang, Central Jakarta, on Friday (28/8/2026).
He said that apart from carrying out his duties within the National Police, meeting with labour unions makes him feel part of the wider workers’ family.
“So apart from the police, meeting with these union friends has become my second home,” he said.
General Sigit then linked his status as an honorary member of KSBSI to the hope that the wider labour family can become more prosperous. According to him, a home must provide comfort and welfare for all family members within it.
“Therefore, it is our obligation that when we enter a home, the home must be comfortable, and the family members inside must also be prosperous,” he said.
He also expressed his desire for Indonesian workers to have competence and competitiveness in facing technological changes and industrial developments.
On the same occasion, he asked the Police Labour Desk to be more optimal in providing protection to workers. The National Police Chief wants the Police Labour Desk to become a strategic partner for workers.
He said the Police Labour Desk has a role in helping workers handle industrial relations issues, including providing protection from criminal threats or criminalisation in the workplace.
“And of course this is a mandate for all of us to truly be more optimal in providing services to fellow workers, especially regarding industrial issues,” he explained.
“But on the other hand, it also relates to issues that concern or impact lives that must be safeguarded and protected for workers from threats of crime or criminalisation in the workplace. And that is the obligation of the Labour Desk to help fellow workers,” he continued.
The National Police Chief also said he has asked the Labour Desk ranks to follow up if problems are still found in the implementation of the Labour Desk’s duties. He entrusted the Labour Desk to continue to be strengthened and passed down to the next generation.
“And I certainly entrust the Labour Desk, with the entry of the Job Creation Law, we hope the Labour Desk can truly be more optimal,” he said.
“Mr Irhami’s homework is very heavy: how to pass down to the next generations how the Labour Desk must become a strategic partner for the protection of fellow workers,” he added.
