National Police Chief: Attack on Andrie Yunus Receives Presidential Attention
The National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo has received orders from President Prabowo Subianto to investigate the acid attack against Andrie Yunus, Deputy Coordinator of the Commission for Missing Persons and Victims of Violence (Kontras).
Sigit assured that the police would continue working and would regularly inform the public of developments in the case. “This has indeed become a serious concern for the President,” Sigit stated on Sunday, 15 March 2026, according to a government communications statement.
Sigit said he received direct instructions from Prabowo to investigate the acid attack on Andrie in a professional and transparent manner. According to Sigit, police would pursue the case through scientific crime investigation, a method that integrates scientific knowledge and forensic technology to establish objective truth. This approach prioritises physical evidence and expert analysis—including forensic laboratory testing, DNA analysis, digital forensics, and medical examination—over witness statements or suspect testimony alone.
Sigit noted that Polri (the National Police) is currently gathering information about the incident. “We will examine this information systematically, piece by piece,” he said.
Additionally, Sigit stated that Polri plans to establish a complaint post for members of the public with information about the Andrie Yunus case. Citizens can report information directly to police.
Sigit stressed that all information from the public would be followed up. Citizens assisting the investigation would receive protection guarantees. “All information provided by the public assisting in this matter will be given a protection guarantee,” Sigit said.
Andrie Yunus, Deputy Coordinator of Kontras, was attacked with acid whilst on Jalan Salemba I-Talang in Central Jakarta on Thursday evening, 12 March 2026. Andrie was sprayed with a dangerous chemical solution by two unidentified individuals riding a motorcycle.
The attackers approached from the opposite direction. Kontras Coordinator Dimas Bagus Arya stated that the perpetrators sprayed acid across the front of Andrie’s body.
The corrosive chemical solution hit the right side of Andrie’s body, including his eyes, face, chest, and hands. Parts of the victim’s clothing also melted from the acid exposure.
According to medical records, Andrie sustained chemical burns covering 24 per cent of his body. He underwent eye surgery following the acid attack.
