National Police Chief, Army, Navy and Air Force Commanders Serve as Flag Bearers at Try Sutrisno's Funeral
Jakarta — President Prabowo Subianto led the state funeral procession for Indonesia’s sixth Vice President, Try Sutrisno, at the Heroes’ Cemetery in Jakarta on Monday, 2 March 2026.
During the ceremony, National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, Army Chief of Staff General Maruli Simanjuntak, Navy Commander Admiral Muhammad Ali and Air Force Commander Marshal Mohamad Tonny Harjono served as bearers of the Indonesian flag as Sutrisno’s coffin was lowered into the grave. Following the lowering of the coffin, the ceremony continued with ceremonial gunfire in tribute to the deceased.
Several former national leaders attended the funeral, including former President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY), former Vice Presidents Jusuf Kalla (JK) and Boediono. President Prabowo served as inspector of the ceremony throughout the funeral procession.
“I, President of the Republic of Indonesia, on behalf of the nation, people and Indonesian National Armed Forces, hereby present to the motherland the soul and services of the late Try Sutrisno, Indonesia’s sixth Vice President, serving from 1993 to 1998 and Commander of the Armed Forces from 1988 to 1993,” Prabowo stated.
Prabowo also expressed hope that Sutrisno’s good deeds would be accepted by Almighty God and that his example of service would serve as guidance for all Indonesians.
