Jakarta, VIVA – The National Police Chief, General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, has conveyed an apology to the public for the behaviour of some officers that has been deemed to undermine public trust and justice.

The statement was made during an iftar event and the distribution of donations to orphans, together with members of the press at the Rupatama Polri Building, South Jakarta, Wednesday, 25 February 2026.

At this event, Sigit acknowledged that every action of the National Police is always under public scrutiny.

“I would like to apologise if, in our daily activities, there may be actions by some of our members, whether intentionally or unintentionally, that have undermined public trust and justice,” he said.

Not only did he apologise, but the former Head of the National Police’s Criminal Investigation Unit also affirmed his commitment to reforming the institution. He ensured that the National Police will not tolerate any violations of the law or actions that damage public trust.

“We will not hesitate to take firm action to protect our beloved institution,” he said.

Sigit also asked all members to be more responsive to public complaints, especially those conveyed through the media. He emphasised that the voice of the press represents the voice of the public, which must be addressed immediately.

“We are fully aware that the voice of the press is the voice of the public. We must take swift and responsive action,” he said.

He also assured that the National Police is open to criticism and evaluation in order to maintain its mandate in maintaining security and public order (Harkamtibmas), as well as carrying out law enforcement professionally.
