The National Police Chief, General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, has conveyed a public apology regarding the implementation of police duties in the field, which have triggered clashes with the public. This was stated by the National Police Chief during an iftar event with community organisations and students.

“I, both personally and as the leader of the National Police institution, apologise if in carrying out our duties in maintaining security and public order in the field, there have often been clashes that have resulted in casualties on both sides,” said General Sigit at the Auditorium Mutiara STIK/PTIK, South Jakarta, Thursday (26/2/2026).

The National Police Chief stated that clashes or casualties are not the goal of the National Police. “However, rest assured that this is not what we are aiming for,” he said.

General Sigit admitted that the institution he leads is not yet perfect and still needs a lot of improvement. Therefore, he asked the public to help maintain democracy so that it continues to run well, in an orderly and safe manner.

“We realise that the National Police is not yet perfect. Therefore, we apologise, and we ask for your understanding if there are still shortcomings in the implementation of our duties, including actions by individuals or members who do not align with the values of Tribrata and Catur Prasetya, which of course, will hurt public trust,” he continued.

In an effort to improve, Sigit is committed to taking firm action against any member of the National Police who is proven to have committed violations or undermined public trust.

“The National Police is of course committed to continuing to improve in order to meet the expectations of the community. The National Police will provide strict sanctions in accordance with applicable regulations, transparently and accountably, to members who commit irregularities,” he emphasised.

He also emphasised that the National Police is always open to criticism and input. According to him, criticism is a vital part of democratic life and serves as material for evaluation so that the National Police becomes more precise and is loved by the community.

“We ask for your help in maintaining and overseeing our institution, the National Police, so that it can truly carry out the mandate of reform, provide the best service to the community, and continue to improve in line with what the community expects,” concluded General Sigit.
