Medan (ANTARA) — National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo together with House of Representatives Commission IV Chairwoman Siti Hediati Hariyadi, commonly known as Titiek Soeharto, symbolically handed over logistical aid to Sumatra disaster evacuees residing in temporary shelters.

Accompanied by North Sumatra Governor Bobby Nasution, the aid was symbolically presented to Central Tapanuli Regent Masinton Pasaribu at the Pinangsori Hajj Dormitory Temporary Shelter in Central Tapanuli Regency, North Sumatra, on Sunday.

To date, 45 households remain at the Pinangsori Hajj Dormitory Temporary Shelter while awaiting certainty on the construction of permanent housing in Central Tapanuli.

The entourage of National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo and Commission IV Chairwoman Titiek Soeharto then inspected various support facilities for evacuees at the temporary shelter, including healthcare services, housing conditions, places of worship, sanitation and hygiene facilities, communal kitchens and logistics, and clean water availability.

One facility that drew Titiek Soeharto's attention was the mobile water treatment unit belonging to the North Sumatra Police Mobile Brigade (Brimob), which is capable of processing river water, brackish water, and even seawater into clean drinking water. "Clean water supply has been well-maintained from morning to evening. We thank the National Police, especially Brimob, for providing this water purification equipment, which has greatly helped the residents," she said.

On the occasion, she also expressed her condolences and concern over the disaster that struck the people of Central Tapanuli. She praised the synergy of the military and police since the onset of the hydrometeorological disaster, who went directly to assist residents at various affected locations across three provinces in Sumatra in late November 2025. "I saw firsthand how police officers waded into the mud, helping clear timber and disaster debris from residents' homes," she said.

She also expressed hope that the government can promptly build more adequate permanent housing for the disaster victims.

National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo said his office together with House Commission IV distributed large quantities of logistical aid to ease the burden on disaster victims in Sumatra. "We are distributing approximately 16 trucks of aid, targeting both this temporary shelter and other affected regencies. We are sending clothing, food supplies, medicine, and school supplies such as books and bags for the children," he said.

In addition to logistical aid, he also handed over construction materials, including cement, to support the post-disaster reconstruction process across three provinces in Sumatra. "We have also instructed all personnel in the field to move quickly and responsively to help restore conditions for the affected communities," he said.
