Jakarta (ANTARA) - National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo affirmed the Indonesian National Police's commitment to continuing its support for workers' struggles towards greater prosperity whilst attending the 53rd anniversary of the Confederation of All Indonesian Workers' Unions (KSPSI) in Tangerang, Banten, on Monday.

"We, particularly from the National Police, will continue to support programmes related to backing workers regarding rights that must continue to be safeguarded and protected," the Police Chief said, as quoted from an official statement.

He expressed hope that good industrial relations would be established going forward, whereby companies operate successfully and workers prosper.

Additionally, the Police Chief emphasised that the National Police's Labour Desk would continue to provide the best possible services, particularly to assist workers affected by redundancies.

"The labour desk will certainly continue to optimally provide assistance, including seeking the solutions needed so that fellow workers always receive support and certainty for their future," he said.

The four-star general called on all elements of the labour movement to support government programmes in the employment sector, which would result in the creation of more job opportunities.

"One of these is the programme related to opening employment opportunities, both formal and informal, the downstream processing programme and other programmes, which we hope can also provide opportunities for the public. The hope is that with job creation there will be a multiplier effect on economic growth," he said.

On the other hand, Sigit also encouraged workers to demonstrate to the world that Indonesia is an investor-friendly country.

"I always urge that every struggle by fellow workers be carried out constructively. Follow the rules and let us show the world that Indonesia is a country that is friendly towards investment and its workers. Professional, mature workers who can certainly provide a comfortable investment environment for incoming investors," he said.

As part of the KSPSI anniversary celebrations, several activities were held, including health-related community service, blood donations, and the renovation of substandard workers' housing.
