National Police Chief affirms commitment to fighting for workers' rights

National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo has affirmed that the police force will continue to fight for the rights and welfare of all workers in Indonesia. “We certainly encourage the struggle to continue fighting for workers’ rights, fighting for workers’ welfare,” he said during the inauguration of the Joint Secretariat Office of the Grand Coalition of the Indonesian Workers’ Struggle (KBPBI) in South Jakarta on Friday, as quoted from an official statement. During the event, the Police Chief also stressed that the police and workers must continue to synergise to maintain a safe and conducive investment climate. He noted that President Prabowo Subianto has people-oriented programmes that must be safeguarded together. “The struggle of our fellow workers is part of the effort to fight for what is in the President’s programmes, especially regarding downstreaming, especially regarding job creation, and of course how to create an Indonesia that is competitive with other countries,” he said. He expressed confidence that unity between the police and workers would support efforts to realise the Golden Indonesia 2045 vision. “We believe that by uniting, by struggling together, Indonesia can continue to be maintained, and we hope we can overcome all potential pressures, we can get through everything, Indonesia can continue to grow to realise the vision, the Government’s programmes towards Golden Indonesia 2045,” he stated. Furthermore, the Chief of the Bhayangkara Corps instructed his ranks at the Police Labour Desk to continue to oversee the workers’ struggle. “Provide more optimal service so that whatever is complained about, whatever is reported, whatever we need to help mediate and so on, everything can run better,” he said.
