The Indonesian National Police (Polri) has affirmed its commitment to continuously reform the institution in order to meet public expectations regarding service, professionalism, and accountability of law enforcement officers. National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo stated that the improvement process within Polri cannot be carried out unilaterally, but rather requires input, supervision, and aspirations from various parties so that institutional reform proceeds in accordance with the needs of the community. According to Sigit, the various criticisms, inputs, and complaints conveyed by the public must be viewed as evaluation material to strengthen police performance and service. “Our hope is that the Polri institution can operate in line with what the community expects,” Sigit said during a Coordination and Supervision Meeting in Jakarta on Wednesday. He explained that incoming public aspirations constitute an important part of the continuous improvement efforts within Polri. This input will serve as evaluation material in policy formulation and strengthening institutional governance. Sigit added that Polri is also currently refining various internal regulations as part of the institutional reform agenda. This step is being taken in line with regulatory developments related to the police institution. According to him, the challenges faced by Polri are increasingly complex, meaning the institution must be able to adapt to social dynamics, technological developments, and the rising expectations of the community regarding the quality of public services. Therefore, strengthening supervision and evaluation is considered important to ensure that every improvement made runs effectively and has a tangible impact on society. Sigit expressed hope that the synergy between Polri and the various parties involved in oversight could continue to be strengthened to encourage the emergence of a police institution that is more modern, adaptive, and responsive to public needs. “So that this institution in the future can truly continue to be an adaptive institution, a modern institution, and can constantly adapt to the expectations of the community,” he said. He emphasised that the ultimate goal of the entire improvement process is to enhance the quality of service to the community while strengthening public trust in the Polri institution.
