The Head of the National Police Traffic Corps (Kakorlantas Polri), Inspector General Agus Suryonugroho, has announced that the peak of the homecoming exodus is predicted to occur on 18 March. His office will implement a nationwide one-way traffic system starting at 10:00 AM on that date.

“I have coordinated with the Minister and the State Toll Road Company (PT Jasa Marga) director that the anticipated peak of homecoming traffic will be on the 18th. So on that date, between 10:00 AM and 12:00 PM, we will implement a nationwide one-way system for outbound homecoming traffic,” said Inspector General Agus whilst inspecting a section of the Jakarta–Cikampek Toll Road (Japek) at KM 57 A on Monday, 16 March 2026.

Inspector General Agus explained that his office continues to monitor the volume of homecoming travellers passing through. Regarding the return journey traffic, Inspector General Agus stated he would assess traffic conditions before deciding whether to implement a one-way system.

“When the traffic accounting technology infrastructure can be controlled, it is possible that we may adjust to a nationwide one-way system or a phased one-way section initially, which we will announce. However, the plan for the nationwide one-way flag out for outbound homecoming traffic is the 18th,” he said.

Inspector General Agus cited several government policies that assist traffic management. During Operation Ketupat 2026, he stated, the National Police are not merely present to regulate traffic but to ensure homecoming travellers are happy and safe.

“Operation Ketupat is a humanitarian operation. Therefore, safety, order, and smooth traffic flow are the utmost priorities,” he said.

Inspector General Agus also emphasised that Operation Ketupat 2026 adopts the theme “Safe Homecoming, Happy Family” in accordance with the instruction of Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo. Accordingly, Inspector General Agus requested blessings for the smooth operation of this year’s homecoming period.

“We request your prayers for the smooth conduct of Operation Ketupat, which is directly overseen by the Police Chief, whose theme is ‘Safe Homecoming, Happy Family’. I also announce that the Police Chief has a Free Precision Homecoming Programme that will be rolled out from each regional police headquarters, including free return homecoming operations,” he said.

Operation Ketupat 2026 is scheduled to run for two weeks, from 13 to 25 March 2026. It is estimated that 143.9 million journeys will be made by the public during this year’s Lebaran homecoming period.
