National One-Way Scheme for Return Traffic to Begin on 24 March
Indonesian National Police (Polri) have noted that the return flow of Lebaran holiday travellers is showing a gradual increase towards Jakarta. As a precautionary measure, Polri, along with relevant stakeholders, will implement situational traffic engineering, including contraflow and local as well as national one-way schemes.
“The plan for the national one-way implementation is scheduled to begin on 24 March 2026 from KM 414 to KM 70,” said the Spokesperson for the Public Relations Task Force of Operation Ketupat 2026, Commissioner of Police Marupa Sagala, in his official statement on Monday, 23 March 2026.
Additionally, he stated that the public can utilise alternative routes via the Jakarta-Cikampek II Southern Toll Road to avoid congestion on the main route, with certain segments available free of charge during Operation Ketupat 2026.
Regarding the peak return flow, he predicted this would occur in two phases: on 24 March 2026 and 28–29 March 2026.
“The return flow is already visible with a gradual increase in vehicle volume. We urge the public to plan their journeys well and take advantage of the existing policies so that travel can be conducted in stages,” he said.
Based on traffic volume data from Sunday, 22 March, from 06:00 WIB to 22:00 WIB, the number of vehicles entering Jakarta was recorded at 122,994, a 3.66 per cent decrease compared to normal conditions but a 3.73 per cent increase compared to the previous Lebaran period.
Meanwhile, the number of vehicles exiting Jakarta through the four main toll gates reached 168,159, an increase of 65.79 per cent compared to normal volume and up 2.06 per cent from Lebaran 2025.
To support the smooth flow of outbound and return travel, Polri is optimising monitoring through CCTV, real-time traffic counting, and cross-sector coordination with the Ministry of Transportation, Jasa Marga, and Jasa Raharja.
Marupa emphasised that security and services will continue to be optimised to ensure the outbound and return flows proceed safely, orderly, and smoothly.
He noted that traffic flow is currently observed to be levelling off and has returned to normal two-way operation, following the cessation of the one-way traffic engineering based on real-time field evaluations.
