National Ojol Coalition Affirms It Will Not Join 27 August 2026 Protest
The National Ojol Coalition visited Sidoarjo and met with online motorcycle taxi (ojol) drivers from Sidoarjo, Surabaya, and Pasuruan in an event titled ‘Ngopi Bareng Ojol Surabaya Raya’.
The activity was led directly by Andi Kristiyanto, Chairman of the Presidium of the National Ojol Coalition. The meeting served as a forum for fellowship, dialogue, and the conveying of drivers’ aspirations regarding various issues affecting the sustainability of their profession.
On that occasion, Juwel Safriko Hutasoit, commonly known as Papa Deon, Secretary-General of the National Ojol Coalition, stated that the National Ojol Coalition (KON) is not involved in the planned action on 27 August 2026.
He also urged all fellow ojol drivers not to be easily provoked by incitement or false news circulating on social media and in various communication groups. According to him, every piece of information received should be handled wisely and its truth verified first.
The appeal was specifically made in response to various information and invitations regarding the planned demonstration on 27 August 2026. Ojol drivers were asked not to make decisions based solely on information whose source or veracity remains unclear.
“Do not let fellow ojol drivers be easily provoked by incitement and untrue information, because in the end it could harm ourselves. Let us maintain unity and conducive conditions in our respective areas,” said Papa Deon during the event.
In addition to discussing the developing situation and information, the National Ojol Coalition also explained to drivers the partnership status between ojol drivers and app operators. This explanation was provided so that drivers have a better understanding of the partnership relationship that forms part of their activities as app driver partners.
The ojol drivers present from Sidoarjo, Surabaya, and Pasuruan then declared their stance to jointly maintain conducive conditions in their respective cities and regions. They committed to not being easily provoked and to continue prioritising communication and the proper resolution of issues.
During the meeting, the drivers also conveyed their aspiration that the ojol status be maintained under the partnership scheme with app operators. They hope that the partnership relationship will continue with policies that provide certainty and a sense of fairness for drivers.
