The National Nutrition Agency (BGN) has temporarily suspended operations at 62 nutrition service facilities (SPPG) across Indonesia. The temporary closures follow the discovery of meal provision under the free nutritious meal programme (MBG) that does not meet established standards.

“We have closed 62 SPPG temporarily because they do not meet standards in providing meals, whether minimal or poor quality menus,” said BGN Director Dadan Hindayana at the office of the Attorney General in Jakarta on Tuesday, 17 March 2026.

Dadan stated that the firm action aims to deter violations and provide an opportunity for partners to evaluate their operations. He noted that of the more than 25,000 SPPG operating nationally, the 62 units represent a small portion engaging in non-compliance.

“These 62 SPPG are being temporarily closed during Ramadan. You know that these 62 units created substandard and minimal menus that went viral, when in fact the vast majority are implementing the programme properly,” he explained.

Dadan emphasised that the agency maintains a tiered sanctions mechanism for partners who fail to comply with standard operating procedures.

“Of course there is a first written warning, a second written warning, then temporary closure. We then provide an opportunity for improvement,” Dadan said.

He warned that if suspended SPPG repeat the same violation after resuming operations, the heaviest sanctions will be imposed.

“If they repeat the violation, the possibility of permanent closure cannot be ruled out,” he stated.

Dadan expressed hope that the number of non-compliant SPPG will decrease in future. He wishes the public to recognise that the overwhelming majority of partners are operating honestly and delivering excellent services to the community.

“We want these 62 to become increasingly fewer over time, so that the reports that emerge represent the silent majority. It must be made clear that there are many excellent facilities,” he concluded.
