The Head of the National Nutrition Agency (BGN), Nanik S. Deyang, has stated that a moratorium will be implemented on the construction of Nutrition Fulfilment Service Units (SPPG). This decision was made to ensure that the Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) programme can be more effectively focused on the 3T regions (underdeveloped, frontier, and outermost).

She revealed that there are currently 2int 27,000 SPPGs, or MBG kitchens, operating across Indonesia. Meanwhile, many parties are still applying to build new MBG kitchens. However, the BGN has decided to prioritise the improvement of existing SPPGs before proceeding with the construction of new ones.

“We will sort this out first (the existing SPPGs). For example, in one sub-district, six units are sufficient. That is enough. Therefore, we are implementing a moratorium,” she said during a press conference at the BGN Office on Thursday (4/6/2026).

According to her, the construction of new kitchens will only proceed if the MBG programme in a particular area is not yet running effectively. The agency will focus on refurbishment and optimisation before expanding the network.

Nanik explained that the moratorium is necessary because the MBG programme is currently more prevalent in large cities. In contrast, the primary focus of the programme should be serving the 3T regions.

“The reason is, to be honest, right now they are accumulating in urban agglomerations, while the 3T areas have not yet been reached. Therefore, the President’s instruction to us is that we must prioritise the 3T regions,” Nanik added.
