National Nutrition Agency Discusses Rp 270 Trillion Indicative Budget for 2027

The National Nutrition Agency (BGN) has not yet finalised its budget for 2027. However, an indicative ceiling of Rp 270,201,499,678,000, or approximately Rp 270 trillion, has been allocated by the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of National Development Planning (PPN)/National Development Planning Agency (Bappenas) for 81.5 million beneficiaries next year.

BGN Deputy Head Agustina Arumsari stated that the figure is not final and no further discussions have been held with the two ministries. "We will continue to discuss it. So, if we use the beneficiary figures according to the RPJMN (National Medium-Term Development Plan), we will simulate what the value is," she said after a meeting with House of Representatives Commission IX in Jakarta on Monday, 15 June 2026.

Arumsari indicated there will be further efficiency measures for the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) programme. In 2026, the BGN budget was cut from Rp 335 trillion to Rp 268 trillion. The BGN will continue to make improvements by shifting the focus of MBG beneficiaries to those who need it most. It has also coordinated with the Ministry of Health to determine nutritional provision for groups ranging from infants to children, as well as meeting nutritional needs at subsequent ages.

"We are trying to listen to the experts already at the Ministry of Health, and from there we are refocusing the beneficiaries," Arumsari said.

Previously, Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa conveyed that the budget cut to Rp 268 trillion was for savings. President Prabowo Subianto reportedly wants the funds used for MBG to be more efficient. "Do not blame MBG again. The President is improving MBG management and the way they spend money," Purbaya said on Tuesday, 19 May 2026.

As of 30 April, MBG budget realisation was recorded at Rp 75 trillion, or 22.4 percent of the original budget ceiling of Rp 335 trillion. With that spending, MBG has reached 61.96 million beneficiaries and 27,952 Nutritional Fulfilment Service Units (SPPG).
